Kepakemapa - September 1996 Volume 2 Issue 9
This group of contemporary native Hawaiian artists of
Hale Naua III, Society of Hawaii Arts, express through conceptual
interpretations and modern mediums the metaphor that is their
culture. Their accumulative body of work is a culmination of the
many years of perseverance and pulling together of energy and
talent.
The individual art exhibited in turning back the
sky reveals the personal style of each artist with the
wholeness based upon meticulous research, scientific comparisons,
proper understanding of symbolisms, family genealogies, and
histories. This is what makes their art solely unique and
authentic. I welcome you to a 20th Century view of cultural
artistic renderings by the descendants, eighty generations
removed from the era of Maui.
